June 7th is National June Bug Day, a unique daily holiday dedicated to raising awareness about these fascinating nocturnal beetles. As June bugs become most visible this month, it’s a perfect time to appreciate their life cycle, behaviors, and important role in our gardens and ecosystems. A Few June Bug Facts...

• They are called June Bugs because the emerage from the soil in late May and June.
• June Bugs help with soil aeration.
• The white grubs of the June Bug can be used for fishing bait. 
• June Bugs can harm plants.  The larva eat plant roots and the adults eat plant leaves.
• June bugs do not bite or sting.
• A myth about June Bugs is that they are blind becasue they fly so irradicatly.  They are not blind they just clumsy.

A Few Ways to Celebrate June Bug Day...

1. Read about or watch a documentary on the June Bug.
2. Sit outside on an early June night and look for June Bugs.
3. Create bug themed crafts.
4. Draw pictures bugs. 
5. Buy a bug collection kit and go out and search for bugs and collect a few.
