• The Twinkie was invented in 1930 by James Dewar, who managed the Continental Baking Company in Chicago. 
• Dewar's inspiration was a billboard advertising shoes called Twinkle Toes.
• The original flavor of Twinkies was banana cream, but during WWII, it switched to vanilla cream because bananas were challenging to come by during the war.
• The shelf life of a Twinkie is 25-45 days.
