• Poetry is one of the oldest forms of communication, dating back to prehistoric times.
• The oldest surviving poem is the Epic of Gilgamesh from the 3rd millennium BC.
• "Metromania" is the compulsion to write poetry.
• Poetry uses words to create images, induce emotions, and tell stories.
• Poetry does not have to rhyme.
