Let's Remember The Day The Music Died!

Remembered, Every February 3rd.

This is a day of remembrance rather than a day to celebrate. On Feb. 3, 1959, we lost three amazing musicians and a pilot. These musicians were incredible artists, which is why it is called the day the music died. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson were the three artists who died that day.  What you can celebrate is the amazing music left behind on that awful day.

A Few The Day The Music Died Facts...

  • The Three Artists were taking part in a Winter Dance Party.
  • This party was held in January and February 1959 and involved a show at least once, maybe more per day.
  • They had been traveling by bus, but due to mechanical problems, they attempted to fly to the next show.
  • The pilot was not aware of the weather advisory that had been issued.
  • The plane crashed just a few minutes after takeoff.
  • The musicians were thrown from the plane and found in a cornfield.
  • Buddy Holly's wife found out about the tragedy from a TV broadcast.
  • Buddy Holly's wife was pregnant and miscarried soon after her husband's death.
How to Remember The Day The Music Died...

1-Listen to American Pie by Don McLean, which speaks of this tragedy.
2-Listen to the music of the artists that died that day.
3-Listen to a Playlist of The Day The Music Died on a music site.  I found a good one on Spotify.
4-Watch the Buddy Holly Story.
5-Read about the artists and their stories.

How will I remember The Day The Music Died? I will watch The Buddy Holly Story, listen to American Pie, and listen to a Spotify playlist that includes the music of all three artists.
