Let's Celebrate National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Every January 9th

Every January 9th, is dedicated to all members of Law Enforcement. It is a time for citizens to take time to appreciate the hard and sometimes dangerous work that goes into the job and show appreciation for the work that Law Enforcement does to protect us. National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was first celebrated in 2015.

A Few Facts: Police in America Facts

  • Over one million people work as public safety officers in the US
  • There have been nearly 24,000 police that have died in the line of duty since 1786
  • 12% of American Law Enforcement are women
  • Police officers are at a higher-than-normal risk for suicide

Ways to Celebrate Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

1-Wear Dark Blue

2-Display a blue light bulb on your porch

3-Read about the history of the police force in the US

4-Watch a movie or TV series about the police

5-Get a gift certificate from a local eatery and take it to the police station

6-Say thank you in person or on social media

7-Send a thank you note to the police station

What will I be doing on this special day?  I plan to wear dark blue and also send a thank you on social media.  If I see a police officer, I will thank them.

Happy National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day!
