  Let's Celebrate National Bean Day!

January 6 of Every Year.

Yes, there is a day, a holiday, set aside every year for beans.

National Bean Day is celebrated every January 6th.

According to Ontario Bean Growers, it is estimated that there are over 400 different types of beans worldwide.  Beans come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes.

A Few Bean Facts

  • Beans are a good source of protein
  • Beans are an excellent source of fiber
  • Beans are low in fat and high in complex carbohydrates
  • Beans are high in folate and iron
  • The type of fiber in beans may help lower cholesterol
There are many ways to celebrate National Bean Day.  You could make a new bean dish, try a type of bean you have never tried before, or just read about beans and all of their health benefits.  I decided to make a recipe with beans to celebrate the day.

This recipe is a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to celebrate National Bean Day.  The original name of this dish was Cowboy Stew...I changed it to Cowgirl Stew because I had daughters, and they thought it sounded better that way, and so did I:-)

Cowgirl Stew

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of hamburger
  • 28 oz can of Bush's Homestyle Baked Beans
  • 10.75 oz can of Tomato Soup-undiluted
  • 1 Tablespoon of Dark Brown Sugar-or to desired sweetness

Directions

  • Brown hamburger in a large skillet pan
  • When browned, drain the hamburger and return it to the pan
  • Add the can of beans and tomato soup
  • Add 1 Tablespoon  of brown sugar/more or less to desired sweetness
  • Simmer until heated through stirring occasionally
  • Serve hot in a bowl with crusty bread

I think it is pretty Yummy:-)
