It is World Hypnotism Day.  The perfect day to better understand what hypnotism is all about.  First off, what happens when you are hypnotized?  According to the Cambridge Dictionary, here is a basic definition...

"the act of putting someone into a mental state like sleep, in which their 

thoughts can be easily influenced by someone else."

For this holiday, I wanted to see a stage hypnotist in action.  Sadly, I could not find any shows nearby I could attend.  So, instead of a show, I decided to learn what I could online, take a quiz or two to see if I could be easily hypnotized, and then head over to YouTube to watch some videos on hypnotism.

Here are a few fun facts...

*Hypnosis is used for fun, such as stage acts, and also for therapeutic purposes.

*This day was created in 2005/2006 to remove the misconceptions of hypnotism.

*Tom Nicoli was the founder of this holiday.

*You can't be forced to do anything against your will when you are hypnotized.

*Not everyone can be hypnotized.  About 10% of the population is highly hypnotizable.

I have always heard that some people are easily susceptible to hypnotic suggestions, and others are not. I found two online quizzes that asked questions about whether you could be easily hypnotized. 

There are quizzes to determine whether you are a candidate for hypnosis. I took one test, the Can I be Hypnotized Quiz. My result was "Ideal Hypnotic Subject."

The second test is called The Hypnosis Test. I scored 33, which means I am "Highly Receptive to Hypnosis."
