Let's Celebrate National Cake Day!

Celebrated Every November 26th.

November 26th marks National Cake Day, a fun, unofficial holiday dedicated to celebrating one of our favorite sweet treats—cake! Whether it’s a slice of homemade goodness or a fancy bakery delight, cake has a way of bringing joy and marking special moments in our lives. This day invites us all to indulge a little, savor the flavors, and maybe even try a new recipe or two in honor of this delicious tradition.

A Few Cake Facts...
  • Early cakes were dense, flat discs of grain, and it wasn’t until the early 18th century—when yeast-based breads evolved into leavened, sweeter creations—that cakes resembling what we enjoy today began to appear.
  • Fruitcakes grow richer with age, originally eaten by Roman crusaders for sustenance, later preserved with rum or brandy, becoming a traditional wedding cake known for lasting well before refrigeration, and even inspiring a charming tradition of girls placing a piece under their pillows to dream of their future spouse.
  • Queen Victoria of Great Britain is believed to be the first to decorate a cake with white icing, which is how the term “royal icing” originated.
  • In the past, people would blow out birthday candles one by one, believing the smoke would carry their prayers up to heaven.

A Few Ways to Celebrate National Cake Day...
  1. Have a dessert party and make your favorite cake.
  2. Pick up a cookbook full of cake recipes, find your favorite, and try baking it.
  3. Look up local restaurants with fun cakes on their menu and go enjoy a slice.
  4. Take a cake decorating class.
