August 11th is Play in the Sand Day, a delightful daily holiday encouraging us all to step outside, soak up the sunshine, and enjoy the simple, timeless joy of playing in the sand. Whether you’re at the beach, by a lake, or even digging in a backyard sandbox, this day invites you to unleash your creativity, build towering castles, and take a playful moment to relax and reconnect with the earth. A Few Sand Facts...

• Sand is composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. 
• Sand is used for production of concrete, glass, water filtration, and used to protect coastlines by creating sand dunes. 
• Sand comes in different colors based on the minerals that make up the sand.
• The tallest sandcastle was 57' 11" tall and was mandated in Germany in 2019.
• There are health benefits of playing in the sand such as stress relief, physical activity, and promotes mindfulness. 

A Few Ways to Celebrate Play in the Sand Day..

1. Go to a sandy area and build a sand castle.
2. Go to the beach and walk barefoot in the sand.
3. Search for sand art creations and look at the photos of sand art on the web.
4. Buy a sand art craft and create your own masterpiece at home.
