July 16th is World Snake Day, a special daily holiday dedicated to raising awareness about the incredible diversity of snake species across the globe. Often misunderstood and unfairly linked to negative traits, snakes play a vital role in maintaining balanced ecosystems. This day encourages us to look beyond the myths and fears, learn about these fascinating creatures, and support efforts to protect them rather than harm them.

A Few Snake Facts...

• Of all the 4,000 spices of snakes only 600 are venomous.
• Snakes smell with their tongues.
• They have a huge size range, the Barbados thread snakes weigh less then a paper clip and green anacondas can weigh over 200 pounds.
• The fastest snake, the sidewinder rattlesnake can travel up to 18 miles per hour.

2. Lean about the snakes in your area and learn how to identify the venomous vs the non-venomous. 
3. Visit a zoo with snakes.
4. Watch a documentary on snakes.
