It’s a day to appreciate tuna’s role in our oceans and on our plates, encouraging us all to make choices that support conservation efforts.

  • There are 15 species of tuna.
  • Some tuna species are warm-blooded, but they are not considered mammals.
  • Tunas can range from 3 to 13 feet long and weigh 40 to 2,000 lbs.
  • Tuna is considered a healthy food, a good source of protein and Omega-3 fatty acids. 
  • The one risk factor in eating tuna is mercury poisoning.
  • Tuna is a fast-swimming fish known to reach up to 47 mph.
