National Telephone Day is a day to celebrate the invention and evolution of the telephone.

A Few Telephone Facts...

• The inventor of the telephone was Alexander Graham Bell in 1876.  
• Before Bell a man named Antonio Meucci made a prototype called the teletrofono which did not work as well as the telephone.
• Bell suggested the phone greeting be "ahoy" but Thomas Edison suggested "hello".
• 100,000 payphones still exist in the United States.
• The first cell phone was made in 1973.
