Let's Celebrate National Kite Flying Day!

Celebrated Every February 8th.

National Kite Flying Day is celebrated every February 8th.  This is a day to get outside and fly a kite.

A Few Kite Facts...
  • In the 1200s, Marco Polo brought a kite from China back to Italy.
  • Benjamin Franklin used the kite to demonstrate the nature of electricity in 1752.
  • A Japanese kite maker flew 11,284 kites on one line...How is that possible?
  • In 1760, kites were banned in Japan because people wanted to fly kites rather than work.
  • It is thought that the first kites were flown over 3,000 years ago and were made out of leaves.
  • There are an average of 12 people killed each year in kite-related accidents.
  • I am surprised, but it is said that you don't need wind to fly a kite.
  • There is a sport called kite fighting.

A Few Ways to Kite Flying Day...

1-Read The Kite Runner (It is an excellent book, but beware of Chapter 6....disturbing!).
2-Go fly a kite.
3-Watch Mary Poppins and listen closely to the song "Let's Go Fly a Kite."
4-Research how to fly a kite.
5-Buy a fun kite.
6-Have a kite flying party.

How will I celebrate National Kite Flying Day? I am going to buy a kite and attempt the kite-flying process.  It has been years, so it should be interesting:-)
Happy National Kite Flying Day!
