California Western Monarch Day is a day to celebrate the migration of the Western Monarch Butterfly.

A Few Western Monarch Butterfly Facts...

This holiday was established in 2004.
They migrate to California's central coast from October to March.
The largest colony of butterflies in North America migrates to Pismo Beach in California.
A eucalyptus tree at Pismo Beach has been known to hold 20,000 butterflies regularly during the migration.
Western Monarchs live west of the Rockies and migrate south for warmer weather.
During the migration, they may travel 1,000 miles.
The monarchs that live in warmer climates, such as the Caribbean, do not migrate.
Adult butterflies live only a few weeks.

2-Go to California to see the Western Monarch Butterfly.

3-Plant the foods that the Monarchs love...Milkweed or nectar-rich flowers.

4-Visit a Butterfly House.

5-Watch a Documentary on Butterflies.

How will I celebrate Western Monarch Butterfly Day? I will go to a local Butterfly house and take photos. I will also watch a documentary on butterflies.
