Finding Joy in Daily Holidays. Let's Celebrate Groundhog Day! Celebrated Every February 2nd.

 Let's Celebrate National Groundhog Day!

Celebrated Every February 2nd.

Every February 2nd, Groundhog Day invites us to join in a quirky tradition where a groundhog is brought outdoors to check for its shadow. If the groundhog sees its shadow, it signals six more weeks of winter; if not, it means spring is just around the corner. It’s a fun and hopeful way to mark the changing of the seasons.

A Few Groundhog Day Facts...

  • The groundhog is a member of the squirrel family.
  • The first official Groundhog Day was on Feb. 2nd, 1887, in Punxsutawney, Pa.
  • The success rate of the groundhog prediction is only about 50%.
  • Groundhogs are also known as woodchucks.
  • Groundhog Day was started by Germans living in Pa.  They originally chose the hedgehog as the predictor but soon learned there were plenty of groundhogs in Pa, so they decided to use the groundhog instead.
