Valentine's Day originated as a Christian Day to honor Saint Valentine.
A Few Valentine's Day Facts...
- Symbols of Valentine's Day include hearts, doves, and Cupid.
- There were three Saint Valentines.
- Most notable was Valentine, a priest in Rome and Martyred in 269 CE. He would cut out hearts from parchment paper and give them to persecuted Christians and Soldiers to remind them of God's love.
- This day became associated with romantic love in 1382 to commemorate the anniversary of the engagement of King Richard the Second and Anne of Bohemia.
- The giving of Valentines was thought to have begun in 1477.
- The first mass production of valentines began in the 1840s.
- 250 million roses are produced in preparation for Valentine's Day.
