National Geographic Day is every January 27th. This day is set aside to celebrate the National Geographic organization that has taught us so much about the world over the years.

A Few National Geographic Facts...

• The National Geographic Society came to be in 1888.
• The initial group consisted of 33 scientists, scholars, businessmen, and explorers.
• Nine months after the group began, the National Geographic Magazine was published.
• Initially, the magazine had very few photos, and only members of the society could receive the magazine. 
• National Geographic was one of the first magazines to publish color photos.
• They have a global readership of over 35 million people.

How to Celebrate National Geographic Day...

1-Browse covers of the National Geographic Magazine.

2-Subscribe to the Magazine or buy one at your local store. 

3-Watch the National Geographic Channel.

4-Visit a National Geographic Museum.

How will I celebrate National Geographic Day? My father used to get National Geographic.  I remember our home had a storage room filled with stacks of this magazine.  For this holiday, I plan to pick up a National Geographic in my local grocery store and do some reading.
